Apart from the political will of the present administration, the leadership style of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Tukur Buratai, is another major factor responsible for winning the war against insurgency in the North east.
Buratai, since assuming duty as COAS, has made frequent visit not only to the North east, but to the frontline where troops engage the Boko Haram terrorists. His physical presence with the troops, analysts said, helped in realigning troops’ morale, and gave the direction and focus, which led to eventual victory over the terrorists.
Apart from visiting the troops in the frontline, he also interacted with their wives during his tours of army formations and units in the region; a manifestation of love for the family of the troops.
After addressing troops in the barracks, the COAS made it a point of duty to also talk with the women, who assembled in a hall, equally enthusiastic to meet him.
His address usually centered on how their husbands are making the country proud, how the army his trying to improve the living condition in the barracks, and welfare of their spouses.
Usually, he gave the women the opportunity to ask questions, which enabled him understand their problems better, and how to solve them.

Recently in 332 Artillery Regiment, Shendam, Pateau state, after listening to complaints from the women, the COAS said rotation of troops has commenced, but it would be in batches.
“Three units have already been rotated, and others will be rotated in due course,” he said. “Also more passes are being given to soldiers to enable them see their families.”
He said troops are also paid their salaries and allowance regularly, and asked who has not been receiving her husband’s salaries regularly to speak. But no one responded – an indication that there was none.
He condole widows of soldier that died during operations, adding that as part of their benefits, the army will train four of their children, between two and 18 years, up to university level.
“And any of them that is interested to join any of the services of the armed forces, he or she will be enlisted,” he assured.
As part of efforts to improve the welfare of personnel, the COAS said he has directed about 60 percent reduction of school fees for children of army personnel in command colleges and military schools across the country.
