Halima Isah, also known as Aliya, in the Dadin Kowa film series on Arewa 24, in this brief chat IBRAHIM HAMISU in Kano, shares her story and how she rose to fame within four years of joining Kannywood.
Introduction, background
My name is Halima Isah, I’m a student, actress, and writer. I was born in Kano, grew up with my parents and siblings. My father is from Kano, Doguwa local government area, while my mother is from Adamawa state.
I attended primary school at Nasara Academy Kabuga, junior secondary school at AKCCC Goron Dutse, and then returned to Nasara for senior secondary school. I also attended BHS Kwoi in Southern Kaduna for SSS 3, and then returned to Southern Kaduna for an NCE programme, where I studied Biology/Chemistry at Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya. Afterward, I returned to Kano for a DE programme at Federal College of Education Kano, affiliated to the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. I’m also planning to pursue my master’s degree soon, God-willing.
How did you venture in to Kannywood?
That I did with the help of my elder sister; entering Kannywood wasn’t difficult for me.
What is your area of expertise?
I’ve played various roles, such as a housewife, a princess, a student, and more. Thankfully, all have been well-received.
In what year did you start acting in Kannywood films?
That was in 2021.
In which film did you make your debut?
I made my debut in the film, Dadinkowa.
How did you land your first role in Dadinkowa?
It’s through an audition. I auditioned and thankfully got selected.
Have you worked on other films besides Dadinkowa?
Yes, I have worked on several films, including Labarin Maryama; Namamajo; Barayin Gida; Ruwan Ido, and others.
What achievements can you attribute to your four years in Kannywood?
There have been many, but I’m grateful to God for all of them.
So far, have you faced any challenges?
There have been some challenges, but thankfully, I’ve made progress.
Who is your mentor in Kannywood?
I don’t have a mentor in Kannywood.
What do you wish for?
I wish for Good things.
What are your future aspirations?
May God grant me with wealth, long life, blessings, and help me achieve my goals.
What advice do you have for women who want to join Kannywood?
If they join, they should take care of themselves, know what they’re doing, and handle their profession well.
