West Africa Container Terminal upgrade to position Nigeria for global trade – Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima said the new comprehensive USD 115 million upgrade projects at the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne; Rivers State has positioned the country to lead in global trade as a choice port of destination.

He said the investment, worth a staggering N184, 538,200,000 will further enhance service delivery at the port and attract more vessels to the port and increase maritime businesses and activities in the south south part of Nigeria.

The vice president assured that the federal government would continue to provide enabling environment for such giant businesses to thrive stating:  “Nigeria is a country of significant opportunities. APM Terminals’ investment in WACT is a clear sign of the company’s strong commitment to developing ports that are a lifeline to global trade.”

The vice president, who was represented by the Personal Assistant to the President on Sub-national Infrastructure (Office of the Vice President), Musaddiq Mustapha, commended APM Terminals for its huge investment in WACT.

“Nigeria will continue collaborating with APM Terminals in the long term to create an environment where businesses participating in global trade can thrive,” he added.

Blueprint Weekend reports that the project encompasses a wide-ranging transformation, including extensive yard expansion, state-of-the-art equipment acquisition, and a modern office complex.

The rest are New Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHC), Rubber Tyre Gantries (RTG), and advanced Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE) that will significantly reduce turnaround time in port operations.
