We’re set to revive Triumph newspapers – Commissioner

By Bashir Mohammed

Kano state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Abubakar Danburam  Nuhu, has said that the Kwankwaso administration was on the course to reviving the state- owned Triumph newspaper company, which was temporarily closed on the order of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking when he paid a familiarisation visit to NUJ press centre in Kano, Nuhu said the prestigious newspaper would never be allowed to die at the time when the Kwankwaso administration was badly seeking the cooperation of the press to succeed, adding that reviving the moribund media outfit was an issue discussed by the state executive council.

He said the Kwankwaso administration was deeply concerned about the shoddy manner the publishing company was mismanaged, stressing that government was willing to inject succor into it in order to compete with every newspaper in the country.

On his part, the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano state Council, Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, said the council was lending credence to the issue of capacity building with the issue of revenue generation taking the lead, adding that it had also mooted the idea of establishing the ICT Park for working journalists to have access to it.
He, however, stated that the Kwankwaso administration had greatly assisted the council to succeed in its quest to promote ethically guided journalism practice.
He thanked the commissioner for paying the visit and urged him to sustain the tempo of forging a close collaboration with the practitioners of the pen.
