We’re out to check human trafficking -NIS

Assistant Comptroller-General Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ishaka Olaide Yussuf has said the Nigeria Immigration would never compromise the sanctity of Nigerian citizenship and that the outfit was ever ready to check the incessant cases of trafficking of Women and children to foreign land where they are being exploited.

Speaking at a 5km walk against trafficking in Women and children held in Kano over the weekend, Yussuf stated that human trafficking was a hydra-headed monster that must be fought to the end in view of the negative consequences suffered by victims of such a dastardly act.

He said the perpetrators of such dastardly act often take solace in using Nigeria’s boarders like Niger and other neighbouring countries as subtle outlets for trafficking of Women and Children to Saudi Arabi, Libya and other European countries lamenting that most of the Women being trafficked were divorcees and spinsters who had withdrawn from schools and ferried out of the country.

He however stated that NIS had established various network to track the clandestine movement of those using trafficking in human beings to get money easily affirming that the issue of unemployment had been a common trend all over the globe which was not peculiar to Nigeria a lone.  

He further revealed that NIS would soon embark on the registration of foreigners living in the country with a view to taking sufficient inventory of those actually residing in all the nooks and crannies of the country positing that engaging the services of the National Identity Management Commission would greatly assist in achieving the desired goal.
