We’re making giant stride against ISWAP, Boko haram – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has said that the Nigerian Army is making giant stride against Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko haram in its renewed efforts to root-out the terrorists in North-east.

Speaking in Abuja at the 2nd edition of Career Planning and management Seminar, 2020, organised by the Department of Military Secretary (Army), the Army Chief charged commanders to maintain the momentum against the terrorists.

“Commanders most develop the mental capacity of their offcers and soldiers, especially in critical thinking, and maintain professionalism,” he said.

Buratai said the Nigerian Army has continued to pay special attention to the career development of its officers, as they lead in the battle ground against the terrorists and other criminals.

“As we battle security challenges across the country, especially in the fight against terrorism there is a need for proper career planning to ensure balanced and rewarding career plan,” he said.

He said the theme of the seminar : “Career Planning and Management in Nigerian Army as a means of sustaining professionalism and effective responsiveness in Nigeria Army Operations,”  was carefully selected to look at the career planning of officers as they lead in battle grounds, which  he said is now very complex because of its as symmetry nature.

He said the seminar, among other things, would expose participants to new decisions, policy and objectives of the Nigerian Army as it relates to career planning of officers.

“This seminar will expose you to planning career of officers in and out of battle,” Buratai said.

Earlier in his address, the Military Secretary (Army), Maj. Gen. Gabriel Ochigbno, said the departments is saddle with the career planning of officers guided by report from unit and formations across the country.

The current security challenges HV its effects on the career planing of officers, hence the department organised sensitization lectures to enable officers understand career progression. The seminar is expanded and continuation of the earlier efforts.

Expose participants to contemporary military resources management. With the establishment of the some corpse some section of the seminar is devoted to women career development in other to be gender sensitive.

The objective of the seminar is to enhance officers’ understanding on issues relating to career development and Military Human Resource Management.
