A candidate to the office of the Legal Adviser in the forthcoming National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Gabriel Odey, has said he was in the race to reposition, rebuild and restore trust in the party.
Odey, who stated this at the weekend in Calabar, added that if elected as the legal adviser of the party, he would join forces with other elected national officers to restore the lost glory of the once biggest party in Africa.
“My quest for national office in the Peoples Democratic Party has been largely actuated by patriotic zeal, with a vision to partner with the other national officers and party stakeholders to rebuild, rebrand and reposition the party that Nigerians and the international community can trust,” he said.
He said with many decades of experience in legal practice, he would revamp the legal departments of the PDP at the headquarters, state offices and chapters nationwide.
“This is to enable them play major roles in the enforcement of party guidelines and compliance with the Party constitution, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with emphasis on alternative dispute resolution.
“With 30 years of active legal and political experience, and having represented the PDP in over 300 cases across the country in all strata of courts in mainly political cases, I am well positioned to serve the party.”
According to him, the party needs internal democracy so that there would be less conflicts and agitations within the party.
“As a gender sensitive social and political activist, I will continue to advocate and support inclusiveness for women.
“The youth are not too young to run for political offices. Our political elders of today started occupying high offices at very youthful age, and today’s young people must be given a chance to play their part towards national growth.”
