We’ll commission Yobe cargo airport in May – Buni

Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has said that the state’s International Cargo Airport under construction would be ready for commissioning in May 2020.

Governor Buni told journalists while inspecting the project  Tuesday
that the contractor handling the project  has assured him that the project would be ready at the end of April, 2020.

Taking the governor round the facilities, the honourable commissioner of Transport and Energy, Abdullahi Kukuwa said the runway has reached over 70 per cent while the terminal building, air traffic control tower, will soon be completed.

Buni, expressed satisfaction with the level of work at the site saying: “I have seen the progress of the work and I am satisfied though, you know sometimes it is about delivery.  The timing and quality of the finishing is critical at this stage.

I was made to understand the contractor would hand over the project by the end of April, 2020 and he is expected to be commissioned in  May this year,” he said.

The project was awarded by his predecessor, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam in late 2018 and it was to be completed in 18 months.
