The Immediate past senator who represented Adamawa North senatorial district, Elisha Ishiaku Abbo, has hit hard on the Nigerian judiciary, advocating for its complete overhaul if democracy must survive in the country.
Abbo called on the citizens to unite against judicial bandits, rotten and corrupt judges and judicial officers who turn justice and judgements into a commodity to be bought and sold by politicians, stressing that they constituted serious threat to the survival of democracy in Nigeria.
He made this call in an interactive session with journalists in Yola where he expressed the concern that the Nigerian judiciary had been bastardised and turned into a cash and carry venture.
According to the ex-lawmaker, judges and their agents now flood politicians’ houses and hotel rooms to collect money and sell judgements to the highest bidder adding that this constituted a serious threat to democracy in Nigeria.
Senator Abbo made reference to his own case where money was collected to remove him from the senate in favour of his opponent who failed to provide a single evidence or witness to prove his allegations against the election that brought him to office for his second term.
He explained that he was removed from office against the provisions of the Electoral Act which says when the margin of win is less than the number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units, there should be a rerun election but the judge removed him from the senate.
“In 2023, I was elected for second term in office to served as senator representing the good people of Adamawa North, But unfortunately, we have a set back from a rotten and corrupt judiciary.
“We were ousted by very corrupt and rotten judiciary where there is no justice, where there is no law.we were robbed by judicial bandits so every Nigerian who love democracy should stand up and say no this is not democracy we fought for, let’s people choose who lead them not just few corrupt judges”
“They will just go and collect whatever they want to collect from politicians in collaboration with the staff of the judiciary who are not judges, registrars of the judiciary and they are agents within the judiciary who flooded politicians’ houses to collect money on behalf of the judges to go and sell judgements.
“You know, when I speak I have evidences, I have text messages of people who said I come from so so judges; it is just too rampant”, he said.
According to him, one of the person that negotiated his removal from the senate was the same senior staff of the judiciary who came to his hotel room with the intention to extort money from him.
