We didn’t receive N10bn SUBEB funds – Bagudu

Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi state Governor, Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, has debunked media report that his administration received N10 billion as counterpart funding from the federal government under Universal Basic Primary Education (SUBEB).

The governor explained that, since the inception of his administration in 2015, only the sum of N2.3 billion had so far been received, while the state also paid its counterpart funding of N2.3billion amounting to N4.6 billion.

According to him, the money was used by the state to renovate 16 secondary and 200 primary schools in order to ensure conducive atmosphere for learning.

“So, we didn’t receive the sum of N10 billion as insinuated by some quarters; what we received was N2.3billion, to keep the record straight,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Bagudu has disclosed that the state government has instituted a court case against the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi over defrauding the state of N10 billion as revenue they supposed to pay to the state.

He said the institution also claimed to have owed the state the sum of N200 million for students tuition fees, out of which the sum of N160 million has since been settled; “therefore, we equally expected them to pay the dues entitled to the state as well”, he said.

The governor, however, pledged government’s continued support to education as the administration has given utmost priority to the sector.
