We didn’t arrest Verydarkman – FCT police

Contrary to the news making the rounds about the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM) by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the FCT Police Command has said the the social media critic was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying and defamation of character and has since been released.

Otse’s Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, had announced his arrest stating that the reason for his arrest was yet to be disclosed.

He however, said that it was related to his recent expose on his X.com.

According to Adeyanju, Otse was arrested on the orders of the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igwe, for allegedly defaming someone who had been accused of scamming a Nigerian abroad.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, in the press statement Sunday in Abuja, said: “…the FCT police command wishes to clarify that Verydarkman was not arrested by the police but was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying and defamation of character.

“He has since been released after voluntarily giving his statement on the allegations.”
