Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Thursday, said he had taken the eleventh-hour decision to suspend all activities relating to the forthcoming Eid el- Fitri Sallah festivities to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.
Addressing the people of Kano on the controversy generated by the earlier decision taken by Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi 11, to conduct similar activities, Bayero said he respects the wise counsel of some revered elders in Kano who advised him to put on hold all planned activities.
He said shedding the blood of innocent people in the name of Sallah festivities would be a bad omen for the age- long peace enjoyed in the state.
Ado Bayero added that he would not be naive to ignore the wise counsel and advice of respected opinion leaders, while pointing out that shelving the decision was primarily borne out of the desire to safeguard the sanctity of human lives at a time when the search for peace and harmony has become imperative.
He however stated that it would be absolutely counterproductive for those in the position of authority to pay lip service to the quest for peace at all times, affirming that allowing peace to prevail in Kano was the way out of any unpleasant circumstances.
He called on his followers to exhibit some same balance of maturity and understanding considering the intricate nature of the prevailing situation and stressed the need for them to embrace peace as a way of making Kano a bastion of respect, reverence and credibility.
