W/Bank wades into out-of-school children issue

Th e World Bank is seeking ways to work with Federal Ministry of Education to reduce the number of out- of- school children in the country, the Senior Director Education for World Bank, Mr. Taime Saavedra, has disclosed. A statement by the director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. C.P. Ihuoma, stated that Saavedra said this, when his team paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu in his offi ce in Abuja Represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Dr. Hussaini Adamu, the minister commended the World Bank for its contributions to the development of the education sector in the country.

Adamu also told the offi cials about a memorandum he presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which was under consideration and reiterated that the ministry had deployed several strategies to reduce the number of out- of- school children, especially, in the North-east of the country. He asked for increased support from the World Bank to enable the ministry tackle more challenges in the education sector. Earlier, Saavedra, who is in charge of education worldwide and former minister of education in Peru from 2013 to 2016, stated that their mission to the ministry was to get a better understanding of the challenges in education and for a possible World Bank support.
