War looms in Ekiti PDP – Olujimi

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Ekiti state over aborted ward congresses in March , worsened Wednesday with declaration by one of the parties in the crisis , Senator Biodun Olujimi that are her  faction is  battle ready in case of  such eventualities.

Olujimi who made the declaration to journalists in Abuja at the premises of the National Assembly said the crisis rocking the party in Ekiti state arose from  mismanagement  of  ward congresses of  Saturday , March 7, 2020 by the Taraba state deputy governor , Engineer Haruna Manu , who collaborated with the former governor of the state , Ayodele Fayose in writing names of his  supporters as ward executives .

She said Manu as the national electoral officer sent by the National Working Committee ( NWC ) of PDP for the ward congresses , frustrated all efforts made by peace loving party faithful in the state to recognise the congresses held before his arrival but witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral  Commission ( INEC).

Manu, she added, in flagrant violation of party guidelines and rules for such elections, handed all the materials to Fayose who was blocked by me and other party chieftains in the Hotel he ran to in Ado Ekiti for falsification of names.

“As far as God fearing and peace loving members of PDP in Ekiti state are concerned, no ward executives yet,  because congresses have not been held and any attempt to foist handpicked individuals as executives of the party on party members and supporters , would be resisted.

“What we  have now in Ekiti state chapter of PDP,  is  lull before the war and teeming members of the party in my own faction , are already in the battle mood,” she said .

Explaining how the whole crisis started , she said :”  What has happened is simple. We had congresses, we bought forms for people. Before the forms were obtained and filled, the party brought out guidelines. Specifically, we were asked to conduct our elections between 8am and 2pm and we complied with that.

“Usually, what is expected of us is to get party people to stand there,  collect all the  forms,  get the people to queue and record the figure. The INEC office and security agents would be there to sign it.  “Then we would proceed to Ado-Ekiti and wait till when the people from Abuja  would come since it is not easy for them to come early.  They will ask if the exercise has been conducted according to guidelines and if it was agreed to by everyone.” They will then proceed to sign it and go. However, when we got to Ado Ekiti,  we found out that the people from Abuja arrived at 4pm and said that they wanted to carry out the exercise all over again. I told them that we are not afraid of the exercise being done by them but that they should wait till the following morning by 8am as prescribed by the guidelines so that we could mobilise INEC and the security agencies so that we could do it properly. “The leader of the team from Abuja, who is the current deputy governor of Taraba state refused to accept our suggestions. He insisted on going ahead that same day. I told him that my local government is two hours from Ado Ekiti. I told him that at 4pm, it would take us two hours, which is 6pm to get there. What can we do again at 6pm?
“The man insisted that he would proceed with the exercise that same day. We then agreed that   we would meet in a particular hotel to see what they bring and collate at 8pm. We were there by that time but he didn’t show up but was inside the Government House,” she said.
