The Senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has stressed the need for the sustenance of unity of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, and issued to newsmen in Sokoto, weekend.
The statement said Wamakko made this remark when he received the national and Sokoto state executives of the Muslim Sisters Organisation (MSO).
Wamakko, who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, said Muslims anywhere in the world should be one and indivisible.
The Sarkin Yamman Sokoto further stressed the need for Muslim organisations in the country to rotate their meetings, conferences and preaching sessions across the nation.
“This will further cement the unity amongst the Ummah and bolster religious harmony,” he said.
Wamakko pledged to sustain his support to the organisation, especially to ensure the success of its forthcoming national conference.
Speaking earlier, the National Ameerah (President) of the organisation, Hajiya Amina Musa Sakaba, commended Wamakko for his continuous support to the organisation.
She said no fewer than 500 delegates from within and outside Nigeria will participate in its forthcoming national conference to be held in Sokoto between December 15 and 17 this year.
Sokoto targets 1m kids for measles vaccination
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has flagged off this year’s measles vaccination campaign with a target of reaching one million children across the Sokoto State.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony in Gwadabawa local government area of the state, the governor said all necessary arrangements had been concluded for a successful exercise.
According to him, one million children targeted is realistic considering the fact that the vaccines will be administered in two phases.
“Twelve local government areas will be covered in first phase while eleven local government areas will be covered in second phase. So far, the state government and our development partners have committed huge resources in order to eradicate measles and other killer diseases among our children.
“Enough vaccines have been provided that will cater for children in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
“The state government has already paid all its obligations in the form of counterpart funding and all partners have been up to date in their payments for the exercise,” he said.
He urged parents and healthcare givers to sustain the efforts to eradicate the disease, assuring people that the vaccines were safe.
The governor directed all local government areas to flag off the same campaign in their localities.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Balarabe Kakale, said 1, 500 teams had been set up to work across all the local governments to ensure “every eligible child is immunised.” (Premium Times)
