West African Examinations Council (WAEC) said it is working out modalities to commence the registration of candidates for its examinations at the senior secondary 1 level.
The Council disclosed this at a workshop held in Lafia, Nasarawa state, saying each student in SS1 will have his or her profile kept securely with the examination body.
WAEC said this would help to check malpractice and migration from urban centres to rural areas, where students hope to harvest credits by all means.
“WAEC will capture the Continuous Assessment (CA) scores of students every year so that at Senior Secondary 111, the number of candidates for its West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), would have been known”, a source said.
A participant at the workshop, who preferred anonymity, told Blueprint that a zonal coordinator of WAEC in Lafia stated that the workshop was held for principals and examination officers of secondary schools.
The step, according to our source, would increase the number of candidates sitting for WAEC external examinations and reduce pressure on internal examinations, while private candidate examination would be taken twice a year.
