VIO plans Operation Giraffe

The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), otherwise known as VIO, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has stated that plans were on-going to commence Operation Giraffe to clampdown unworthy road vehicles.
Its Director, Engr. Aliyu Bodinga, said the operation was going to be part of expanding the services of the traffic division of the Directorate to bring sanity on FCT routes.
Bodinga stated that as part of the exercise, 400 workforce of the Directorate had been deployed to easy traffic flow in the city centre and the suburbs, even as he warned motorists against violating of traffic rules.
The Director, who spoke to Blueprint recently, explained that the Operation was aimed at eliminating vehicles whose particulars were not captured in DRTS data base, as well as those not having FCT number plates, and those for commercial purposes without Abuja colours.
He reiterated the Directorate’s commitment to sustaining the gains DRTS recorded last year, saying that his leadership would continue to work closely with the FCT transportation secretariat with a view to boosting operation’s output.
Bodinga gave the assurance that DRTS would introduce Google application in its services to give the members the opportunity to ascertain the validity and authenticity of their documents whenever arrested.
He cautioned motorists against dealing with touts, advising members of the public to visit any DRTS office to registrar, even as he implored motorists to patronise DRTS-computerised centre for vehicle checks.
According to him, the Directorate is making efforts to establish area commands in Kwali, Abaji and Karshi to make residents feel their impact in terms of service delivery, traffic control and management.
