Varsity teacher charges politicians on rule of law

Head of Department of Political Science, University of Abuja, Dr. Yusufu Ali Zoaka, has called on the nation’s politicians to obey the rule of law to prevent the collapse of the country’s nascent democracy.
Zoaka, who made the call while speaking to our correspondent in Gwagwalada, said the prevention of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, from entering the House, saying that it was not appropriate to democracy in the country.
“Tambuwal is still the Speaker of the House of Representative and should be allowed to run his office until dully removed by the majority of the House,” he said.
He said the politicians should be very careful and respect the rule of law governing the country to prevent democracy from collapsing.
According to him, Since Tammbuwal is still the Speaker he should not be stopped from entering the House until he is constitutionally removed from seat.
He said: ‘As long as he is still in power, all the privileges of that office are expected to be benefited by him until he is removed from that position constitutionally, he maintained. He, therefore, called on the security operatives to tread cautiously while maintaining peace and order as it was the bedrock of any institution.”
The HoD called on the police to operate based on the constitution as they were all accountable to the citizens of the country.
He said we must shun violence, stressing that instead of fighting over political interests and ethnic bias, “let us embrace peace.”
Maintaining that the possibility of what happened recently in Burkina-Faso was likely going to happen in Nigeria if adequate measures were not put in place considering the number of people that lost their lives, especially in the North-east, he said “let us join forces against violence in our nation today. We must come together and work closely with one another; that is the way we can enthrone peace.”
