Varsity rules don’t support embarrassing students – UDUS security officer

Following the unrest amongst students at their hostels September 29, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) chief eecurity officer, Col Abdullahi Gwandu (rtd), has announced that university rules do not support the embarrassment of students by security officers.

The officer disclosed this while speaking with reporters in the university who paid him a courtesy visit in a bid to improve relations between students and security division.

“Beating is outlawed even between you and your fellow student and no staff is allowed to use sticks on students, even ordinary hand. To tap with the hand is normal, I can play with students with hands, by that, he knows am not beating him but cracking jokes and boosting his morale,’ he said.

He also urged students to be calm and always abide by the school rules and regulations.

“Students must be seen to respect school rules…things are happening and different cases were brought before me.”

He reassured that efforts had been taken to improve the security situation on campus. He said the vice chancellor had approved the recruitment of more vigilantes and security personnel because in the last five years, over 70 members of the security team had lost their lives or retired.
