US: Trump vows to appeal birthright citizenship ruling

US President Donald Trump has revealed that his team will appeal a federal judge’s ruling temporarily blocking his executive order on birthright citizenship.

Recall that a US District Judge in Seattle, John C. Coughenour imposed a 14-day halt on enforcing the executive order ending birthright citizenship.

Speaking with reporters at the Oval Office, Trump disclosed that he would appeal the ruling of the judge who called his order “blatantly unconstitutional”.

“Obviously we will appeal it,” the president stated.

Trump, shortly after his inauguration, signed a flurry of executive orders with no fewer than 22 states, two cities and many civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), challenging the order which critics tagged unconstitutional.

Speaking on Trump’s decision to end birthright citizenship, Judge Coughenour said: “This is a blatantly unconstitutional order.

“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades, I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is.”

On its part, the Department of Justice said it would defend Trump’s executive order, which according to a spokesman “correctly interprets” the US Constitution.

“We look forward to presenting a full merits argument to the Court and to the American people, who are desperate to see our Nation’s laws enforced,” the spokesman said.
