United States of America (USA) has restated its commitment in helping Nigeria in curbing the scourge of HIV/AIDS in the country.
US restated its commitment during the commemoration of this year’s World HIV/AIDS in Abuja yesterday.
The programme took place at Government Secondary School, Wuse, and it involved more than 200 Senior Secondary School students from 10 public secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as key government officials from the education and health sectors.
US ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, donated sets of science books to the school libraries of each of the participating schools.
He also stressed the importance of HIV prevention among young people and
advised the students to play an active role in stopping the spread of HIV in Nigeria.
“Here is what you can do about it … take an oath today … make this disease stop with you. Prevent it,” he said.
The theme of this year’s HIV/AIDS Day is “Behaviour Change for Epidemic Control.”
