Louisiana Republican Mike Johnson was reelected House speaker Friday on a first vote, overcoming skepticism about his leadership from some in his party.
Johnson clinched the post after two lawmakers who initially voted against him changed their votes.
President-elect Donald Trump endorsed Johnson this week and urged Republican lawmakers to back him, in part so that the party could move quickly to enact Trump’s agenda.
Members of the 119th Congress have been sworn in and the House has adopted a package of rules governing procedures.
