US envoy acknowledges challenges before NERC

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Transformation, US Department of State Bureau of Energy, Dr. Robert Ichord, has acknowledged the enormity of work before the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC) citing the challenges the commission had to face towards energy efficiency for the power sector.

The envoy who was at the commission last week Wednesday with his delegation, noted that there were many issues to be discussed but that the delegation was more interested in the distribution chain of the sector for now.
The delegation also sought information on distribution aspects that includes the expectations of the new DISCOS.

He also acknowledged that that the relationship between the investors and the regulator may witness disagreement at first but expresses hope that they would understand themselves in time to work for the good of the sector.
In his response, chairman of the Commission, Dr. Sam Amadi, informed that there had been consistency in the reform as every aspect was backed by law.

He said the reform had been realised, assuring further that it was backed up with strong protocol regulations.
He said there was cordial relationship between the Commission and government, saying “We haven’t had government interference with any of the regulations.”
