Uniuyo records 240 professorial promotions in 5 years

The Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Professor Aniefiok Essien, has said that his five-year tenure recorded no fewer than 240 professorial promotions.

Prof. Essien, who made the disclosure during the End of Tenure Media Chat with pressmen on Wednesday in Uyo, said the number included both professors and associate-professors.

He said that it was the first time in history since the establishment of the institution that such track record was attained.

“For promotion in the professorial Cadre, we have had more in my five-year tenure than in any other tenure before now. Between December 2015 and November 2020, we have had a total of 240 professorial promotion.”

The Vice Chancellor whose tenure is winding down said the institution has also recorded a resounding numbers of academic staff promotion, adding that their promotion arrears were also duly paid till date.

“We have had regular promotions as and when due. We cleared the backlog particularly for non-teaching staff, some dated to 2011… We paid promotion arrears to deserving staff.”

Essien said his five-year tenure enjoyed relative peace as there were no internal dispute that would lead to the closure of the institution either through demonstration or strike by the staff or the students.

Speaking on the remodeling of the school, he said his tenure embarked on and completed all the uncompleted projects left behind by the previous administration while at the same time initiating new ones.

Essien said through his administration, the university has gain international recognition and that its ranking has also significantly improved as against the level he met when assuming office in December 2015.

Commenting on the accreditation of programmes in the institution, he said “the University has full accreditation for most of its programmes from both the National and Universities Commission and the relevant professional bodies”.
