UNIMAID disowns IIJ Abuja, threatens legal action

 

The management of the University of Maiduguri, Borno state,  weekend threatened legal action against the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja, over affiliation claim with the university.

A Senate member of the university, who craved anonymity, stated this to some journalists  telephone over the weekend.

IIJ, an institute owned by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), is enmeshed in allegations of certificate forgery.

The management of the school was recently dragged to the FCT Police Command over allegations of certificate forgery. 

The institution was alleged to have issued statements of results and a certificate to undeserving aspirants to various positions in NUJ FCT council election.

Speaking, the UNIMAID don said they recently read in some online media about allegations of forgery in an institution said to be affiliated to the university, but stated that there was no such existing affiliation.

“We consider this to be criminal in nature and efforts are on to address this anomaly,” the official said.

Speaking further, he said, “they (IIJ) did not comply with the regulations. So, they are not supposed to issue any certificate or statement of result with the affiliation to the University of Maiduguri on it.”
