UNICEF, Netherland launch special water project in Adamawa

Following the successful conclusion and gaps noticed in the implementation of acceleration sanitation and water for all (ASWA11) project in Adamawa state, the United Nation Children Fund ( UNICEF) with supports from Netherland Government have selected Adamawa and Kaduna states as two beneficiary states for ASWA 111 project.

Blueprint report that the project is aimed at improving water, sanitation and hygiene in the benefiting state.

Speaking during the state lunch of the project/ press briefing  at the weekend in Yola, the chief Unicef field office Bauchi, Nuzhat Rafique, stressed the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene in human society,  describing it as a pillar of humanity, civilisation and good community which affect all aspects of human lives .

She commended Adamawa state Government  for their commitments towards the success of all unicef interventions in the state and their collaborations which continued to earned them more interventions and projects in various sectors with a call on them to keep on the good work. 

Nuzhat, further expressed optimism that Adamawa state will continued to shine  and emerged the overall best in the implementation  of the third phase of the ASWA 111 project.

She  assured of unicef  commitments to work with all stakeholders to make life better for the people of the state  especially women and children in all areas of Unicef interventions. 

Shedding more light on the project, the head of sanitation and hygiene of Ruwassa, Aisha Yusuf ,  who is also ASWA desk officer in Adamawa said that 1500  vulnerable people  selected from two local Governments of Guyuk and shelleng  will benefits from these project which will improve hygiene and sanitation in the state. 

According to her, the project  will have positive impacts on the people of the state especially in improving the lives of the vulnerable  population, eliminating open defecation drilling solar powered boreholes ,renovating schools ,constructing sanitation  facilities  and improving hygiene infrastructures in health centres among many  other benefits.

On his part,Adamawa state commissioner for water resources, Hon.Audu Ayuba, thanked unicef and other development partners for their supports to the state through various interventions and reiterated the commitments of the state government to bridge all existing gaps in the state especially in water and sanitation sector.
