UNICEF gives free medicare, drugs to 200 Zamfara women

The United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Zamfara state Ministry of Information, has given free intensive antenatal care and drugs to about 200 pregnant and breast-feeding mothers during the maternal and newborn child health week held at Nahuche town in Bungudu local council of the state.
This was made known by the officer in charge of Nahuche Primary Health Centre, Sani Magaji at the media field visit to the facility yesterday.
According to him, majority of the women and children received anti malaria treatment, antenatal care, meningitis immunisations and hand washing materials among others.
He commended UNICEF and Zamfara state government for procurement of assorted drugs for maternal care, stressing that the efforts had reduced maternal and child mortality rate in the state.
In an interview with journalists, a nursing mother, Sadiya Albadar, expressed satisfaction with the UNICEF support to women and children, stressing that the programme helped assiduously in reducing maternal and children mortality rate in the state.
