Delta state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, yesterday warned politicians to stop politicising security issues in the country.
Uduaghan gave the warning during the commissioning of nine refurbished crime-fighting machines, including four Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), four Hilux vans and one Mercedes lorry under the state police command.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama, commended the Command for their successes so far in combating crimes in the state and urged it to sustain the tempo.
Uduaghan expressed optimism that the inauguration of the machine would go a long way in checking criminal activities and called on residents to join hands with security agencies to totally flush out criminals from the state.
He said: “I am, therefore, to be part of this commissioning of refurbished armoured personnel carriers and other vehicles, which are to go full swing into crime control. The state must be prepared to confront security challenges at all times.”
Earlier, the state police commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said that since January till date 19 murder suspects had been arrested adding that 10 kidnapped victims were also rescued.
He said 23 arms, 68 ammunition, 23 stolen vehicles, five motorcycles and N420, 000 were recovered from hoodlums during the period under review.
The police boss lamented that a total of 107 cultists were round-up in the last two months and enjoined parents to always keep an eye on their wards.
He said the refurbishment would assist in consolidating the Command’s efforts at combating violent crimes, warning crime perpetrators and their collaborators to relocate from the state.
