Top scorer in the history of the Nigerian league, Mfon Udoh is sure of breaking into the main stream of the senior national team with his inclusion in the home based Super Eagles that will confront Black Meteors of Ghana in a friendly game.
The home based Eagles are to open the newly built Uyo International stadium tomorrow when they take on Ghana’s U23’s in an international friendly at the multi-billion naira edifice in the Akwa Ibom State capital and Udoh, who hails from Akwa Ibom state, says he hopes to make most of the opportunity not just before his home fans, but to cement a regular spot in the Eagles.
“I’m really excited with this opportunity and I really want to make an impact. It’s an avenue for me to further showcase my talent and tell Nigerians that am capable of adding value to the Super Eagles if given the chance,” he said.
“Playing in my home state is not really the biggest attraction for me. The biggest attraction is to play well enough and prove myself so that I can get more invitations.”
The Enyimba striker has scored 21 goals in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season, breaking Jude Aneke’s previous record of 20 goals but he admits he still has to make an impact with the Eagles, and equally has the ambiton of taking his trade beyond the shores of Nigeria.
“Naturally I should be expected to look beyond playing in Nigeria, and I pray that very soon I make to big leagues in Europe. Staying in the country means that one wants to become a local champion and that’s not my portion by God’s grace,” he said.
