Troops neutralise 254 terrorists, bandits, kidnappers in one week

Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces fighting to rid the nation of criminal elements across several theatres have neutralised 254 terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers and rescued 73 kidnap victims from their hideouts in the last one week.

The troops also arrested 264 terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers during the engagements, while also arresting a total of 104 oil theft criminals in the Niger Delta region.

They foiled and denied oil criminals attempts to steal crude oil and its by-products worth the sum of N2.60 billion (two billion, six hundred and two million, nine hundred and two thousand, and eight hundred naira).

Director of Defence Media Operation, Major Gen Edward Buba, who made this known on Friday, disclosed that troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed 67 illegal refining sites, 131 dugout pits, 70 boats, 125 storage tanks, 43 cooking ovens, 12 pumping machines, 6 speedboats, 12 motorcycles, 2 tricycles, and 12 vehicles. 

They also recovered 3,282,250 litres of stolen crude oil, 224,050 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 5,925 litres of DPK.

During the encounters, troops recovered 378 assorted weapons and 4,705 assorted ammunition, made up of the following breakdown: 131 AK47 rifles, 2 FN rifles, 2 G3 rifles, 3 SMGs, 69 locally fabricated guns, 57 pump action guns, 7 pistols, 14 locally fabricated pistols, 5 revolver rifles, 4 revolver pistols, 45 Dane guns, and 2 hand grenades, 7 RPG Launchers, one RPG bomb, 17 Dane gun double barrel, IEDs. 40 motorcycles, and the sum of N748,430.00, amongst other items

Giving details of the operations, Gen Buba said, “Troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East neutralized 63 terrorists and arrested 13 BH/ISWAP terrorists. 

“Troops recovered 47 AK47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one FN rifle, 3 SMGs, 10 fabricated guns, D-dane guns, 2 hand grenades, 2 locally made pistols, 7 RPG launchers, one RPG bomb, one RPG tube, 1050 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 223 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 2 magazines, 3 vehicles, 5 motorcycles, 9 mobile phones, and the sum of N136,975.00 and 38,500 CFA, among others.”|
