Troops kill 2 Bakassi militants, lose 1 in Cross River

Troops deployed at Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State have killed two Bakassi militants during an attack on its base, at the weekend.
Army spokesperson, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in s statement that the suspected militants, who were in several speed boats, were led by a wanted criminal kingpin, Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1,  leader of the Bakassi Strike Force.
He said: during the attack, a soldier was killed in action, while 2 soldiers were missing in action. They also burnt a buffalo pickup vehicle. The troops have also killed 2 of the attackers while the rest escaped with gunshot wounds.
“However, the reinforcement sent have found the missing soldiers. In addition, the troops location have been reinforced with more gunboats and air component. The clearance and pursuit operation is ongoing.”
While assuring the public that the “singular” act would not deter the military from discharging its duties, he said the perpetrators of the “dastardly” act would be found and brought to justice.
He also warned criminal elements in the country that intent to attack any of its locations to have a rethink.
