Trade between Indonesia, Nigeria hits $3.9bn – Envoy

The immediate past Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Usra Harahab, says the volume of trade between the two countries has hit $3.9 billion.

“The volume of trade between Nigeria and Indonesia is about 3.9 billion dollars and it will increase because we have we put measures enhance volume of trade between the two countries,” he said.

Harahab, a retired General in Indonesian military who served for six years as Ambassador, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

According to the ambassador, the improvement in volume trade between the two countries was as a result of enhanced diplomatic ties.

He said he championed trade and investment, achieving numerous milestones in Nigeria-Indonesia relations during his tenure.

“My telephone number is open to business community both in Nigeria and Indonesia.

“They already know me and have unfettered access to me. They come to me and tell what their needs and challenges are.

“Most times I call Indonesia and tell them that this person want to do this kind of business with Indonesia, what do you have and is your incentive for them. ”

Speaking on specific measures he took, the Envoy said, “I also have zoom meeting with businessmen from both countries and they have been very engaging and fruitful.

“We also have WhatsApp for businessmen from both countries where they share business opportunities and challenges,” he said.

Harahap said as part of efforts to increase trade between the two countries, Indonesian embassy has simplified Visa application process for business men.

He said over 180 business men and women from Nigeria in 2024 because of the enhanced diplomatic ties.

“Not only Indonesia, around the world Nigeria is known as a big market. The first I did was is to establish a relationship with business men from both countries.
“The second is to encourage them to visit each other in order to tap into opportunities that exist in both countries.
“We have simplified Visa procedures for Nigerian business men. For every big like event like trade expo in Indonesia we encourage Indonesian Immigration to simplify Visa processes for Nigerian business men.
As a result of this, many Nigerian businessmen have traveled to Indonesia for business meeting, he said.

He said Indonesia is also interested in Nigerian health sector particularly in the area of vaccine.
“Two weeks ago, the minister of health of Indonesia was in Nigeria and he had a very fruitful meeting with the minister of health of Nigeria. The Minister of health of Nigeria was very happy and he is ready to collaborate with Indonesia to improve the health sector of both countries,” he. Said.
