An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court in Kado yesterday sentenced a motor park tout, Mohammed Abubakar, 28, to one month in prison for breaking the windshield wipers of a car belonging to a civil servant.
Abubakar, who resides in Gwagwa, Abuja, is charged with criminal mischief.
The presiding judge, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, sentenced Abubakar after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Mohammed, however, gave him an option of N3, 000 fine following his plea of guilt.
He also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N2, 500 to the nominal complainant or serve additional two weeks in prison.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simeon Ibrahim, told the court that Abubakar wanted to extort money from a civil servant,
Alhaji Jawaru Isah, on May 13 at the Berger Junction, Abuja.
He said that the complainant had parked his car at the Berger Junction at about 5.30 p.m. where he tried to pick passengers going to Lugbe.
Ibrahim said the convict demanded money from the complainant but he refused to give him and the accused broke the windshield wiper of his car.
He said the wipers costs N2, 500.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code. (NAN)
