Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and indelible mark of a First Lady

The saying, “Behind every successful man is a competent and courageous woman.” is a timeless truth that has been proven time and again throughout history. This adage is particularly relevant in the case of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu.

As a former Senator and now the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi has been a rock-solid support system for her husband. Her intelligence, compassion, and strength have been a constant source of inspiration and motivation for President Tinubu. Together, they make a formidable team, and Oluremi’s influence has been instrumental in shaping her husband’s vision for Nigeria.

One of the most striking aspects of Oluremi’s character is her unwavering commitment and loyalty to her husband. She has stood by him through thick and thin, offering a steady hand and a reassuring presence whenever he has needed it. Her courage and resilience have been a beacon of hope for many Nigerian women, and her legacy continues to inspire and empower them to strive for greatness.

She has been a rallying point for her husband. For instance, the First Lady recently paid a courtesy visit on statesman like Generals Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida, both of whom are former heads of states.

Oluremi’s own accomplishments are a testament to her strength and determination. As a Senator, she was a vocal advocate for the rights of women and children, and she worked tirelessly to promote education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Her passion and dedication have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless Nigerians, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.

In many ways, Oluremi Tinubu is the embodiment of the African proverb “a woman is the backbone of the home.” She has been the rock that has held her family together, offering love, support, and encouragement to her husband and children throughout the years. Her influence has been felt far beyond the walls of her home, and her legacy will continue to inspire and empower women and girls across Nigeria and beyond.

Without an iota of a doubt, she’s a woman of remarkable strength and character, earning her the title of a true Amazon. Her selflessness, compassion, and dedication to serving others are qualities that make her a role model for women everywhere.

In Nigerian history, there are several women who have demonstrated similar strength and resilience, including Hajia Gambo Sawaba, a politician and women’s rights activist, and Chief Mrs. Margaret Ekpo, a pioneering female politician. These women, like Mrs. Tinubu, have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations of women leaders.

Internationally, women like Mother Teresa of India, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Hajia Amina Mohammed of the United Nations, a renowned diplomat and advocate for sustainable development, have also made significant contributions to humanity.

Mrs. Tinubu’s own legacy is marked by the fact that, like her husband, she has a listening ear. Most of the things she has done to support her husband are based on the advice given to her in this column. For instance, she has sustained the idea of meeting with governors’ wives and collaborating with the states to bring succour to the less privileged.

Senator Oluremi is a shining example of womanhood, compassion, and humility. She has been very committed to uplifting the lives of Nigerians, particularly the elderly, through her various initiatives and charitable work. As a two-term Senator, she selflessly dropped her political career to support her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and dedicate herself to the service of Nigeria. This remarkable act of sacrifice is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family and her country.

Through her various initiatives, Senator Tinubu has demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly the elderly. The event themed, “Total wellness: Happy, healthy and prosperous lifestyle,” was held at the Women Development Centre in Awka. Beneficiaries also received free medical check-ups, wrappers, vegetable cooking oil, and other essential items.

Similarly, in Enugu State, Senator Tinubu’s initiative distributed ₦50 million to 250 elderly citizens. The event was attended by state dignitaries and community leaders, who praised the First Lady’s efforts to uplift the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

In Lagos State, the Renewed Hope Initiative provided financial support to 250 elderly citizens, totaling ₦50 million. The event was held at the Lagos State Government House, where beneficiaries also received free medical check-ups and essential items.

Other states that have benefited from Senator Tinubu’s initiative include Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River etc.

In addition to financial support, Senator Tinubu’s initiative has also offered free medical check-ups, eye checks, and vital monitoring to ensure the well-being of senior citizens. This comprehensive approach to supporting the elderly is a hallmark of her compassionate leadership and dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians.

Her commitment to uplifting the lives of Nigerians is not limited to her work with the elderly. She has also been instrumental in rallying wives of governors in Nigeria, and African  countries, under the aegis of Organization of African First Ladies for Development to work together for the betterment of society. This collaborative approach has enabled her to make a significant impact on various social and economic issues affecting Nigerian communities.

She demonstrated her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through the Renewed Hope Initiative. Recently, she donated N100 million to victims of disasters in Niger State, with N1 million allocated to each of 70 families and the remaining funds dedicated to providing food and supplies.

This gesture of kindness and compassion is a testament to Senator Tinubu’s dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians. The Renewed Hope Initiative has been instrumental in providing support to various communities across the country, focusing on empowerment, education, and economic development.

Senator Tinubu’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, and her commitment to creating positive change in Nigeria is truly inspiring. Her partnership with other prominent figures, such as Hajiya Nana Shettima, the Vice President’s wife, further underscores her dedication to collaborative efforts that drive meaningful impact.

Through the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Tinubu continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of Nigerians, and her selfless work is a shining example of leadership and compassion.

As a true partner to President Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has been instrumental in supporting his vision for Nigeria. Her selflessness and compassion have earned her a special place in the hearts of Nigerians, and her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations. Her humility and dedication to serving others are a beacon of hope for Nigeria, and her influence will be felt for years to come.

Her remarkable life and career are a testament to the power of compassion, humility, and dedication to public service. As the First Lady of Nigeria, she continues to inspire and uplift Nigerians, and her legacy will be remembered for generations to come.

In retrospect, Oluremi Tinubu’s legacy as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 is indeed remarkable. During her tenure, she established the New Era Foundation, which focused on promoting environmental health, community service, and the all-round development of young people.

Her commitment to empowering women and children has been consistent throughout her career. As a senator representing Lagos Central, she advocated for policies that benefited the most vulnerable members of society.

Now, as the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi is replicating her success at the federal level. Her initiatives have been instrumental in improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.

Her dedication to public service and her passion for creating positive change have made her a beloved figure in Nigeria. Oluremi Tinubu’s legacy continues to inspire and motivate others to work towards a better future for all Nigerians.

As the mother of the nation and leader of the Nigerian governors’ wives forum, Nigerian are appealing to her and expect that she will work closely with the office of the Attorney General of the Federation to ensure speedy trial of child traffickers, culprits of rape, child abuse, and other related offences.

Another expectation is that Mrs. Oluremi will, as a matter of urgency, convene a meeting of first ladies of ECOWAS countries to discuss issues on deepening democracy, arm’s trades, the  fight against terrorism and corruption within the region. This way, other wives of African presidents will see the need to consult her on ways they can support their husbands to actualize the success of their administration.
