Tinubu orders FUD to go into research on varieties of crops

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Federal University Dutse (FUD) to delve into frantic researches that will come out with the improved varieties on food crops in the country.

The president stated this Saturday, during the 6th and 7th combined convocation of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa state capital.

Tinubu who was the visitor to the university was represented by the coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate.

“Jigawa state is known for its production of grains and exportable crops such as wheat, rice, sesame, dates, Roselle calyx (Zobo) and orchards.

“I therefore expect FUD to provide the leadership needed in research to produce improved varieties of these crops, as well as give scientific and extension support to farmers, to enhance their productivity and economic viability.

“Let me emphasise that the task of building our nation, including education is Herculean, and requires commitment and collaboration from all,” Tinubu said.

He urged that, “We must all come together in a spirit of renewed hope to promote this country to its deserving place. I therefore solicit your cooperation and patriotism.”

The president also warned that the funding of universities in the country cannot be undertaken by government alone.

He said this is so  at a time when the country is facing economic challenges, with other competing demands from various other sectors.

“His administration will always provide the enabling environment within the limit of available resources for universities to operate as the flagship of our educational endeavour and the bedrock of our national development,” he stated.
