Tinubu commissions NIS solar-powered technology innovation complex

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Tuesday commissioned a state-of-the-art Technology Innovation Complex by the Nigeria Immigration Centre named after him.

The complex comprises the Command and Control Centre (regular migration), NIS Data Centre, ECOWAS Biometric Card Production Centre, Interior Data Centre and a Solar Power Plant.

Speaking at the event, the president said the complex would enhance national security and the efficiency of the country’s migration and border management processes.

“It is a great pleasure for me to stand before you today to commission the Bola Ahmed Tinubu technology innovation complex at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters for this service’s judicious use and prosperity. I have heard you loud and clear, and the excitement in the air.

“The integration of the security, whether air, land or sea, embarked upon by you is a fulfilment of a dream. From the beginning of our administration, we promised to deliver and execute innovative solutions across the government, including the Nigeria immigration service. Thank God today we achieved that, and we are making tremendous progress.

“This state-of-the-art complex comprises seven key components including a Data Centre, command and control centre, visa approval centre, ECOWAS Biometric Card Production centre, and a solar farm has already been described to you and the passport personalisation centre
Nigeria is harnessing technology to drive her process.

“At this stage, over 200 million people, a leader in Africa must embrace technology, must embrace changes, innovation, and knowledge-based opportunities to drive a process that is greater for the generality and a vast number of people.

“We believe that if we rejig our immigration and air travel, we will benefit tremendously from the economic opportunity and ease of entry and exit it offers.

“Let me commend the Giant stride of the minister of interior. I have heard you and heard you clearly in the praises. But I am just one person in your life, and you are serving Nigeria. What you have achieved on your passport alone internationally has given this country a great reputation. I thank you; we must thank you,” he said.

Also speaking, the Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, said the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex would ascertain the risk level of persons entering the country, detect irregular migration patterns and monitor unmanned borders in hard-to-reach areas nationwide.

She said the facilities set the benchmark for using technology to secure our borders and ensure the security of the nation.

She said complex, the first of its kind in Africa, marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

She said the centre is designed to serve as a central repository for the NIS’s digital infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency and security of the country’s Migration/Border Management processes and National Security.

The NIS boss said facility would use cutting-edge technology to ensure seamless data management, storage and analysis, thereby enabling the NIS to efficiently manage migrant records and ensure border surveillance and control.

She said the, which is in line with the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reveals the government’s pragmatic efforts to harness the power of technology to drive economic growth, improve security and enhance citizen experiences.
