The aged rural farmers

The lack of interest in farming by some youth is getting out of hand and presently the people that are feeding us are the small holders aged farmers. Some people see the cultivation of land as a poor man’s business while most peasant farmers who take bank loans find it difficult to paying back. Also, prices of agricultural produce, security challenges, poor infrastructure, high bank interest rate discourage the youth from farming.

Whereas the aged farmers are still producing, there is no incentive for the youth to

engage in agriculture. There is, therefore, the need for a succession

plan from the aged farmers  to the youth, so that the agriculture sectors can be developed.
