Terrorism: We’ll change mode of operation to achieve more results – CDS assures

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, has stated that Nigeria military is set to change its mode of operation to involve both kinetic and non kinetic, as it intensifies effort to tackle insecurity and terrorism across the country.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy visit on Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Friday, Gen. Musa, who assured the people of Kaduna state that Operation Safe Haven will be expanded in Southern Kaduna to cover Birnin Gwari, Zangon Kataf, Sanga, Kaura and Giwa as requested by the Governor, added that some gaps have been observed and they would soon be closed to stop terrorists from operating freely.

He said, “we are going to expand Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna and Birnin Gwari areas, what we are doing is that we had a meeting with task force leaders and theater commanders to get more robust and more result oriented approach. We are changing the mode of operation from what it used to be it would now be both kinetic and non kinetic. We observed that there are some gaps, so we are going to close them down because closing them down will make it difficult for the terrorists to move around and operate freely that would ensure that the people of Kaduna have peace of mind.

“Everyone needs to cone together and take ownership as we take the fight to the terrorists those who are smart among them will realise that it’s time for them to surrender but for others who want to be stubborn we would flush them out of Nigeria. We don’t want to flush them from one state to the other, we want to send them out of our country.

“We are going through challenging times economic and security wise but if you don’t go through challenge you may not discover who you are. I know we are going to come out stronger your excellency with your leadership and the support of your team. What we are going through is momentary, we would soon find peace. It’s just a matter of time, we would cone out with success. Please don’t relent, we will overcome,” the CDS said.

Governor Uba Sani in his address extolled the virtues of the CDS, noting that he is a man of valour who has thrived abd succeeded on all the assignments handed over to him. “We are excited with your appointment, your outstanding career is a source of of pride and inspiration to us. You are one of the most successful theatre commanders and you left an indelible mark in the North-east. You adopted a kinetic and non kinetic approach and achieved a huge success.

“We want to appeal for a prolonged stay of the special forces and for the expansion of Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna to Kafanchan, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Sanga, Birnin Gwari, Giwa areas to restrict bandits from using our state as a refuge. Gen. Musa is someone we have trust in even within governors’ circle we have confidence that the issue of insecurity in Nigeria would soon be history because of what he did in the North-east. When I was sworn in, our son of the soil had just been appointed as the Chief of Defence staff, someone who has done a lot in fighting terrorism.

“I approached him and we sat down in Abuja and from that moment, he has been helping Kaduna state. He has been extremely supportive and that was why I requested for the expansion of Operation Safe Haven and having more boots on ground. It’s about good governance, bringing everyone to the table, to rule with equality, with justice and ensure that everyone is carried along. With this approach, within a short time they won’t be able to carry out their nefarious acts,” Governor Sani said.
