Teqball: Nigeria storm final in 2023 African Beach Games

Nigeria’s Teqball star Victor Oyemade, on Sunday June 25, reached the final of the event in the ongoing second African Beach Games taking place at Hammamet, Tunisia.

Oyemade beat his Ghanaian opponent 12-4, 12-8 to win 2-0 in both sets in the semi-final.

Enroute to the last four stage, Oyemade also crushed his Cape Verde opponent in two sets in the quarter-final.

With a strong start in the first set, Oyemade dominated the game, outscoring his opponent with a 12-3 lead. 

Continuing his impressive performance, he carried his momentum into the second set, ultimately securing a 12-7 victory. 

Oyemade’s convincing win solidified Nigeria’s representation in the teqball event.

Speaking, Oyemade stated, “I am not here for a joke. This is serious business.”

He further shared that during the match, he purposely applied a strategy of slowing down the tempo, allowing him to test out new techniques while comfortably maintaining control of the game. 

Later same day, Nigeria beat Cape Verde 2-0, emerging victorious after two sets in the men’s mixed doubles event.

Teqball is part of 11 sporting events Nigeria registered for at the Beach Games which kicked off June 22 and is scheduled to round off June 30.

Beach Volleyball, Beach Handball, Air Badminton, Kata Karate, Open Water Swimming, Tennis, Ocean, Rowing Beach Sprint and Beach Wrestling are other sports Nigeria is taking part in.

The continental showdown will serve as a crucial qualification phase for the upcoming ANOC World Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, scheduled for August 4 to August 12, 2023.
