Tent shortage: Saudi firm, NAHCON to relocate 10,000 pilgrims to new site

As part of an effort to reduce the pressure caused by the shortage of tents for Nigerians, the Saudi Arabia firm and National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) will relocate 10,000 Pilgrims to a new site.

Blueprint on Monday June 26, 2023 reported that hundreds of Nigerian Pilgrims were without tents in Mina, Saudi Arabia, as tents provided by the Saudi Arabia firm couldn’t accommodate the 95,000 Nigeria contingents.

NAHCON in a statement by its Deputy Director, information and Communication, Mousa Ubandawaki, Tuesday disclosed that Saudi Arabia  authorities have agreed to relocate about 10000 pilgrims to a new site to decongest the present tent

According to the statement, “The Muttawwif while apologizing for the treatment meted out to Nigerian pilgrims promised to make up for the incidence by relocating the pilgrims to the Turkish Arena which can conveniently accommodate about 10,000 pilgrims.”

“We really want to apologise for what Nigerian pilgrims went through today. However, i want to impress it on the commission that we will give them utmost priority in the comings days for what they passed through,” said  Ahmad  Sindhi, who is the Chairman of the Company of Muttawifs.

“Therefore, from 2 pm on Wednesday, we will relocate about 10,000 pilgrims outside the traditional tent area to the Turkish Arena which has better facilities and will also ease the crowd in the Muna area.

“Mr. Sindhi expressed appreciation to the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria(NAHCON) for showing understanding and the Nigerian pilgrims for their patience and perseverance,” the statement added.
