Tension in Kano as police surround Emir Sanusi’s palace

Kano residents woke up Friday to witness a tense situation as security operatives surrounded the palace of the Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sanusi II.

The security operatives blocked the entrance to prevent the emir who was expected to attend a royal event in the Bichi local government area of the state from doing so.

As of the time of filing in this report, Emir Sanusi was seen being accompanied to the main palace to perform his usual royal engagements with district heads paying homage.

It was gathered that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was set to host a stakeholders’ meeting Friday at the palace to discuss and take possible action on the controversial tax reform bill presently before the National Assembly.

When contacted to respond to why police barricaded the palace, the Kano state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, was not available to respond as of the time of the visit.
