Team Nigeria sweeps Benin Republic International tournament

Team Nigeria dominance of Badminton game in the West Africa sub region was reignited over the weekend in Benin Republic as the team made almost a clean sweep of medals at stake as the International tournament came to a close. Th e Nigerian team fuelled by the yet-to-be inaugurated board of Francis Orbih won four gold, four silver and eight bronze medals to top the chart. Th e allure of the performance was the clean sweep of the Women’s Singles’ medal in which Dorcas Adesokan beat compatriot, Deborah Ukeh to win the gold, while the latter got the silver medal. Th e duo of Tosin Atolagbe and Zainab Momoh won thebronze medals as all the four fi nalists were players of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria.

Th e same clean sweep was almost done in the Men’s Doubles as the pair of Enejo Abah and Abass Adamu won the gold, Habeeb Bello and Usman Isiaq won the bronze along with the pear of Tolu Olukotun and Folorunsho Opeyori who won the bronze medal. In the men singles, Habeeb Bello won silver medal while Cote d’Ivoire International singles champions, Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Clement Krobakpo won bronze medals. In the Women’s Doubles, it was also an all-Nigeria aff air as the pair of Tosin Atolagbe and Dorcas Adesokan won the gold medal while Debora Ukeh and Peace Orji won the silver medal. Zainab Momoh and Ramat Yakubu were bronze medallists. In the Mixed double, Enejo Abah and Peace Orji won the gold medal.
