Team Baba are soccer Champions in Abuja fitness and wellness games

President, Junior Chambers International (JCI) of Abuja, Olubunmi Ajayi, has called on Nigerians to take their mental and physical health needs very seriously, by regularly keeping fit and engage in routine sporting activities.

Ajayi stated this, while declaring open the 11th edition of the annual sports fiesta for people of all ages, on Saturday, at HOFK Gardens in Utako District, Abuja.

The events who are carefully selected to help both the young and elderly keep fit and maintain wellness through sports, was tagged “all can play the game”.

The events that featured this year include ayoo, scrabble, monopoly, ludo, table tennis, saw young and the young at heart compete for silverware and cash prizes.

Kids were also on hand to also show their skills in athletics with boys and girls competing in 100m race, board football; and a football match between Aso ladies and Abuja Unity ladies ended in a draw at regulation time, but Abuja Unity ladies went on to win it 2-1, after penalty shootouts.

In his remarks at the day-long action packed and fun filled fiesta, the national president, JCI Attahiru Abdullahi, advocated for the involvement of many more people in sports, to help improve our wellbeing and boost out individual productivity, and that of the nation.

Team Baba and and team Yara locked horns in the men’s football match, which pitted the young against the elderly.

Goalkeeper of Baba FC, was outstanding between the sticks, while showing that experience is the best teacher, as he stood between the youngsters of Yara FC and goal for the entire duration of the match, which
Baba FC eventually won via a penalty shootout to emerge 2023 champions.

They were subsequently presented with a trophy, just like winners in other categories were presented with medals and cash reward for triumphing in other categories.
