Teacher training, capacity building our top priority – TRCN Chairman

The Chairman, Board of Directors, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Dr. Mustapha Salihu, has pledged to prioritise teacher training and capacity building to enhance the quality of education in the country.

Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the TRCN headquarters on Kaduna, Salihu assured that his leadership would focus on teachers’ welfare, professional standards, and strengthening the Council’s administration.

“Our focus is to ensure that educators are well-equipped to meet contemporary teaching standards,” he said.

“A well-trained teacher is the foundation of a strong educational system, and we must invest in their continuous development.”

Salihu, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman for the Northeast, emphasised the need for digital literacy among teachers, saying Nigeria’s education system must align with global trends.

He assured the TRCN management that necessary policies and reforms would be introduced to strengthen the Council’s operations, ensuring that teachers receive the support and resources needed to excel in their profession.

TRCN’s Acting Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr. Stella-Maria Nwokeocha, welcomed Salihu’s appointment and expressed confidence that his leadership would bring positive reforms to the Council.
