Abductors of the member representing Takum I state constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Hosea Ibi have demanded N75million ransom for his release, a family source has disclosed.
A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent yesterday that the kidnappers have contacted a family friend who is also a lawmaker in the state Assembly with the ransom.
However, it was not clear whether the family was willing to pay the ransom to secure the release of the lawmaker, even as the source refused to disclose the name of the lawmaker friend.
Police authorities in the state command denied knowledge of any such contact and the ransom.
Speaking through the police public relations officer, ASP David Mishall, the command advised the family not to pay any ransom to the kidnappers as they were doing everything possible to ensure the free and safe release of Hon Ibi.
The member representing Takum 1 state constituency was kidnapped last Saturday night in his home town, Takum by yet to be identified gunmen.
Hon Ibo is another high profile kidnap victim in the state since Darius Ishaku became governor two years ago, the first being the mother of his deputy, Haruna Manu.
Meanwhile, governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has momentarily transferred his offi ce to his home town, Takum where the lawmaker representing him was kidnapped, insisting that the kidnap issue must be resolved before he would leave the area.
His government has maintained sealed lips since the kidnap incident.
