Youths from Taraba state, under the auspices of Taraba Volunteers, have said that the verdict of inconclusiveness on the state’s gubernatorial election by the Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Prof Kyari ,was unacceptable, adding that the results of the April gubernatorial elections should be released.

At a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, the spokesperson of the group, Barrister Nierus Johnson, said there was no basis for declaring the election inconclusive as elections were conducted across the 16 local government areas of the state except in few polling units for lack of or insufficient security.

They further stated that out of the 165 polling units in Donga LG where PDP was leading, elections in 160 of the polling units were peaceful and results were submitted, pointing out that it was not enough to attract outright cancellation of the results.
Johnson wondered why the results in Bali LG, a stronghold of the APC, which witnessed similar irregularities, were declared and upheld.
According to them, PDP won massively in the 10 LGs of the state in accordance to the requirements of the law, while the APC won only in six LGs.

The group called for the immediate removal of the REC in the state and the sustenance of the Donga results in the 160 polling units accusing him of bias.

It also wanted the INEC to return the duly elected PDP candidate in line with the provision of section 53 of the Electoral Act as amended and section 179 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, warning non-indigenes to desist from interfering in the democratic process in Taraba state.
