Taraba: I’ll harness resources to improve IGR – Kefas

The Taraba state governor, Agbu Kefas, Tuesday, said his administration would harness the state resources to jerk up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state.

Kefas, in a press statement in Jalingo signed by his Special Adviser media and digital communications, Emmanuel Bello, said lack of serious and effective master plan was affecting the growth of the state.

The statement added that years of not having the master plan had affected growth and development, nothing that his administration was working round the clock to get a workable plan for the state that would eliminate chaos in urban planning and enhance urban development.

“The governor has reiterated his promise to harness the state resources to jerk up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), a master plan is pivotal for this to work better” the statement added.

The statement informed that modern developmental models depended largely on such documents for direction.

“At the moment, Taraba state has no master plan and attempts to get one in the past stalled. A recent survey showed that apart from Jalingo, the entire local governments have no master plans either, on which to benchmark urban planning and other related usage of a master plan” the statement hinted.

According to the special adviser, the governor decried a situation that had seen the state making blind permutations in the past without a workable document.

He explained that proper and efficient planning must be anchored on a blueprint of data and designs.

The statement further said a consortium of professionals were currently working round the clock to come up with a master plan that would take into account mineral deposits found and a comprehensive mapping of the entire state.

“This would have huge implications for road constructions, bridges, and rail lines. Modern cities can then emerge, showing clearly the demarcation between residential areas and business centers. Land allocation, sinages, and economic zones can then be properly mapped out”, the statement said.
