Tanzania FA president detained

The president of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Jamal Malinzi, has been arrested by the country’s Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau. He was detained along with the TFF’s secretary general Selestine Mwesigwa. Th e duo were held overnight and face a second round of questioning on Th ursday. Bureau spokesperson Musa Misalaba added the pair will stay in custody until further notice as they are questioned. The detention comes after a lengthy investigation by the bureau. Details of the specifi c allegations are yet to be made public. Misalaba said the bureau is continuing to investigate other federation offi cials over similar allegations.

Meanwhile, the CAF Champions League Group A will see two Sudanese giants battling for honours when Al-Hilal Omdurman visit El-Merreikh this evening at Al-Merreikh Stadium in Omdurman. Kick-off is at 8:00pm (CAT). Omdurman are out to use the match as an opportunity move up the log table as they are currently placed at No 2. Th e Blue Wave, (Omdurman) are searching for a victory to ensure they keep the pressure on log leaders, Etoile du Sahel. Coach Nabil Kouki’s side has four points and trail the leaders by as many points as they are yet to win in the group, after drawing all four of their matches. A derby is not always an easy match to play, but Kouki will have to prepare for this encounter and hope for a win. Conceding three goals from four matches is a good record for the visiting side, and they will be banking on their defence to hold ElMerreikh at bay
