Tackle quackery in journalism, NNPP chieftain urges new NUJ president

South West chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo on Sunday charged the newly elected President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya, to address malpractices within the media industry

The NNPP chieftain gave the charge in a congratulatory message to the new NUJ president elected at the NUJ 8th triennial national delegates conference in Owerri.

Ajadi underscored the need for the newly elected NUJ executives to tackle the infiltration of fake and untrained hands in the journalism profession.

He stressed that the new national executive led by Yahaya should ensure that the NUJ continued to fulfill its constitutional roles with a renewed patriotic passion, aligned with the vision and efforts of the founding fathers of journalism in Nigeria.

“May I also reminds you that you are coming in as NUJ leader at this critical time that the journalism profession is being infiltrated by fake and untrained hands. As NUJ President, I encourage you and your executive members to address malpractices within the industry”, he said.

He added, “I expect your tenure to reflect a strengthened commitment towards upholding journalism ethics. I wish you and your team a successful and impactful term in office”.
