Benue north-east senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded elections, Governor Gabriel Suswam, has accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Benue state, Istafanus Dafwang, of special interest in his candidature.
This is even as he declared that he cannot accept the results of the election that returned his major challenger, Chief Barnabas Gemade, of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
He stated this in Makurdi through his agent, Mr. Solomon Wombo, while insisting that arrangements had been put in place to challenge the elections at the tribunal.
According to the results announced by INEC in Makurdi, Gemade defeated Suswam at the just concluded National Assembly election with 140,715 votes against 118,603 votes announced.
He said the cancellation of the results in three polling units of Logo, four council wards in Konshisha and two wards in Vandeikya, “amounting to disenfranchisement of over 120 votes clearly shows that the Resident Electoral Commission has played into the hands of the APC.”
He said: “My complaint is that the results were mutilated in some cases; the voting was way far above the registered voters and we are bothered that he used the same reasons to cancel results in some LGs that are PDP strongholds but refused to hear our case and we are equally saying he has special reasons for doing such injustice.”
